because the server is weaker and I don't want to move all the assets off homurachan if I don't need to move. while I am very angry with incognet over their lack of professionalism, they had a freak incident and got screwed over by their datacenter upstream.

for example, this is the 2 core plan at buyvm. they offer double the storage but only a 1GB uplink.
>>14 #
Yes. I have 2.5GB at incognet and could pay extra for 5GB.
for the sort of site this is surely you'd rather have the extra storage

>>17 #
doesn't really matter. all of their plans are 1 GB bandwidth. I could host homurachan performantly for now on frantech but if the site grows enough or I want to do something dumb like streaming, it wouldn't last.
>>19 #
I didn't.
>>17 #
actually on that topic, is there a good way to test network performance short of writing a posting bot?
>>21 #
I guess the most realistic test would be how many files can be simultaneously uploaded and downloaded from the site. I knownothingabout networking but I assume it's not as simple as a 1 GB/s link can send 1 GB of files per second unconditionally.
>>20 #
sure but i mean are you trying to test the *site* code or the server/host? if the latter you can use iperf (that's pretty standard)
>it's not as simple as a 1 GB/s link can send 1 GB of files per second unconditionally.
no you would normally be able to burst higher than this, depends on the provider obviously
>>22 #
>but i mean are you trying to test the *site* code or the server/host?
The server.
>iperf
thankie
>>23 #
nee bosh flen i was actually a network engineer before i became a neet so if you ever need anything just shout

>>24 #
waow. You should bully shiki some time, he does networking too.
>if you ever need anything just shout
what's the best way to monitor network performance live in the terminal? ideally something graphical and with more detail than btop. can I watch individual requests for assets and uploads in progress with estimated speeds?

>is there a particular reason you want to restrict it to a TUI...?
Anything that works in ssh, but an ncurses or btop like gui is probably easiest to set up.

Ohay

I woke up from my nap, drove half sleepy home, and came here.
Glad the site is back, made the post count is gone.
>network monitor
The best gui tool is going to be something like Wireshark. I think there are variants of htop for networking, i just don't remember them rn because I'm tired and listening to a podcast.
>>31 #
>performance
I open a tty terminal sometimes and leavenetstat -tupnacrunning. to see active connections.
I would go for iptraf, now that I'm looking it up.tcpdump and netstat are still things you should know how to run.
wireshark for performance monitoring?? i dont think that's really what he needs
>>29 #
is this for liek active troubleshooting or do you want something that runs all the time you can just look at/set up alerts for etc?
i see what you mean now. you're after something that runs *on the server* and lets you see real-time traffic stats when you SSH in. tbh i think its probably worth your time and effort to set up something dedicated for that type of work if your host doesn't provide good tools through their web interface or something. personally i'd look at something like Prometheus if you don't mind a bit of a learning curve, it's fun though

https://www.fosslinux.com/41725/the-10-best-linux-network-monitoring-tools.htm
here's something to look through based on your need.
what sort of telemetry do you have for the webapp side of things? i dont mean client telemetry obviously, but i mean do you do tracing/syslogging etc etc?

>>34 #
>if your host doesn't provide good tools through their web interface or something
I don't think frantech provides them at all, but I've got daily and monthly network stats for incognet.
Wait, bunker thread? What does this mean.
Ah, new site. The posts numbers are so small.

I'll make this domain name point to the main server again eventually. In the meantime go here
