The ~~cheap~~ kind from China. I've been doing the test examples but have to figure out something. Opening block design in one example crashes Vivado. It took some time figuring out how to get Petalinux to boot as well.

That sounds very cool! I've always wanted to focus on moving ~95% + (-ish) of the algorithmic functionality of a production robowaifu into hardware, once all the algorithmic puzzles themselves were solved. Doing so should greatly reduce the computational costs during runtime, reduce power consumption, and make for cheaper manufacturing.

I still have ~~another PhD's worth of effort before that stage, so it's~~ a long way to go before then.

I decided to rewatch the final episode, and now I remember why I really like the finale.
Urobuchi called out humans undergoing AI psychosis from neural networks' hallucinations more than a decade before venture capital would ever make it a reality, just like PSYCHO-PASS called out how globohomos would try to impose digital ID and mandated social credit. The final villain of the anime is literally a LLM gone rogue and calling itself SHODAN.
So it's wryly funny that the representative of the "last bastion of humanity" is a faulty algorithm misreading a prompt.

So Gargantia concludes, "let them fight." Do people concern themselves with the DRC fighting Mali or whatever? The other robot honestly made so little impression on me that I forgot it even existed. The whole alien conflict is a dumb framing device that results in a (partly) dumb ending to make a dumb point. It's not like Urobuchi hasn't gone there before, the ending of the Psycho Pass movie is that Akane is okay with the Sibyl System because she's japanese and that's the status quo. The entire character arc of Makishima and ~~the other one whose name I forgot~~ exposing the fundamental problems with it is wasted.
