They most likely ripped off the ending to this movie. The amount of inspiration from 80s movies the games has is a lot. Halo: CE is a pretty blantant ripoff of Aliens(1986).

Ok, ST 2, 3, 4, are the "trilogy". 3 is mid, 4 is the one everyone remembers, the one with the whales. ST 5 is a meme movie, that ending is straight out of the TOS, it's a long episode of the /tv/ show. ST 6 however is far more interesting because it came out in 1991 and it's all end of the Cold War stuff. That one we should watch for sure.

I will make the thread for 3 for next weekend. In retrospect, that movie is notable for giving us the Klingon design that became the standard.
